MUNGA
Model United Nations General Assembly
Taking part in a United Nations simulation is a powerful way to learn about and understand the United Nations and its relevance to all of us.
As its name suggests a MUNGA (Model United Nations General Assembly) is a simulation of the real United Nations General Assembly and the history of MUNGA in Oxfordshire goes back to March 1990. Our MUNGAs involve 6th Form students, mainly from Year 12 but there is no hard-and-fast rule about Year 13 participation. Demand for places has increased significantly, resulting in 2004 in a doubling of the number of days available to schools.
For our MUNGAs, schools and colleges participating send one or more teams each made up of three students. Each team represents one of the member countries of the United Nations. During the day, the teams participate in discussions relating to issues of importance to today’s world. Draft resolutions similar to those used in the real context are debated and voted upon.
The service is available to groups of schools outside of Oxfordshire. For further details, please contact the OIEB in Oxford.
